Hi everyone and welcome to this ‘Lets Get Woodworking’ website.
Woodworking has been a passion of mine since I was 12 years old. I purchased my first set of woodworking tools at the tender age of 15 and still own that set in its entirety which is pretty amazing given it is over 40 years old!
I am not a trained craftsman, just a keen hobbyist, but I believe there is no substitute for the feeling you get when you’ve turned a bit of rough wood into a beautiful and/or practical piece.
Hopefully this site will inspire you to take up the craft of woodworking or continue if you are already enjoying creating your own pieces.
A little bit about the things I make
Wood is beautiful, natural and a pleasure to work with. I don’t have any particular style or item I like to make, I just go with what I feel or, more often than not, what my friends or family need.
Some of my creations include 3m long rustic outdoor tables, outdoor decks and steps, gates, live edge counter tops, vegetable boxes, chopping boards, meditation benches, doggie bowl tables (so they don’t have to bend down so far to eat) and, believe it or not, poo stools (those little stools some people like to put their feet on in the toilet!). I’ve even been known to custom build and install a few kitchen cabinets.
That sense of satisfaction when you create something
As I mentioned above, the sense of satisfaction and achievement when you craft something from wood is what it is all about for me.
Putting your time and effort into making something that someone can enjoy and cherish really is a tremendous pleasure. I believe that everyone has the ability to do this and nobody should ever be put off from trying, it can lead to some amazing creations. So don’t hold back, just go for it and see where it takes you.
Encouraging new woodworkers
This site is here to try to encourage anyone to take up the craft of woodworking. Don’t doubt your ability and don’t doubt that you can develop your skills and become an accomplished craftsman. The key is to enjoy what you do and enjoy learning new skills. If you ever need advice or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out. I may not have all the answers but I will certainly find out from a huge network of accomplished woodworkers.
And don’t forget the old adage, ‘practice makes perfect’
